Analysis on Hematologic Parameters of perpheral blood with Incomplete Leukocyte Comp by Coulter STKS

Abstract
Background:
Coulter STKS is an automated hematology analyzer based on VCS(volume, conductivity, light scattering ) system, which make it possible to identify five part WBC differential count. However, we have met some cases of incomplete computation, in
which
differential count could not be obtaned in routine use of Coulter STKS.
Methods:
We analyzed the basic hematologic parameters, as well as WBCs distribution examined by manual count on adult cases with incomplete leukocyte computation to recognize
Results:
The incomputability cases were 107(6%) among total 1845 routine CBC tests analyzed through Coulter STKS over a week period. Female adult cases (62.8%) were more prevalent than males or young-aged patients. Two common findings were high PDW and
RDW
values. High WBC count with neutrophilia also seemed to be contributary to the incomplete computation. The most common underlying condition of patients was late pregnancy.
Conclusions:
the results suggest that the possible causes of incomplete computation may be associated with the cellular or humoral reactive changes in response to physiological or pathological conditions. Among cellular changes, variable sized platelets or
RBCs
may play a role in the incomplete computation.
